Update on iOS 17’s ‘NameDrop’ Feature: Ensuring Your Privacy in Close Proximity
Submitted by Jason Risner
Hello, iPhone users!
We’ve received questions about the iOS 17 ‘NameDrop’ feature, and we’re here to clarify: The ‘NameDrop’ feature doesn’t automatically transfer your contact information. It simply enables the potential for sharing when devices are nearby. All users are automatically enrolled in this feature after the update. This includes children using iPhones, so parents should take note.

🚨 Attention, iPhone users! The latest iOS 17 update introduces ‘NameDrop,’ a feature that shares your contact information when devices are in proximity.
To manage your privacy settings and disable this feature:
- Go to Settings ⚙️.
- Select General > AirDrop.
- Find ‘Bringing Devices Together’ and switch it OFF 🔕.
